Durham  is a City status in the United Kingdom in the North East England of England. It is within the County Durham local government Unitary authority, and is the county town of the larger Ceremonial counties of England. It lies to the south of Newcastle Upon Tyne, Chester-le-Street and Sunderland, Tyne and Wear and to the north of Darlington.
 
Durham is well known for its Normans Durham Cathedral and 11th-century Durham Castle, and is home to Durham University. Durham (HM Prison) is also located close to the city centre.
